    Naats'iilid Asdzaa (Rainbow Woman)

    Navajo:

All you recent ones listen to me,

    You are going crazy,

The White man's devil is consuming your thoughts,

    You must over come it,

    I pray with the ancestors

You recent ones, what is happening,

    You need to over come,

    My heart is hurting,

    We are the land,

    I offer you my prayers

    I offer your my prayers,

    All my people,

    Chant:

I come from the Navajo Nation,

Hear my song, We walk in beauty before us,

We walk in beauty behind us,

There is beauty in all of us,

May we all walk in beauty,

    Chant:

    Navajo:

My name is Tash, I made of Bitter Water, from the White man,

  • Lee Tsoh Doo Da

    Our elderly men and women,

We remain strong with their teachings,

Our plan it to continue these teachings,

By passing this on to our children,

With this we will remain strong forever,

    The east meets the west,

The north meets the south at the same time,

    In there is a center,

Where we meet for our Navajo land,

You asked us to assimilate and learn,

    Your non-Native ways,

In return we’d be left alone,

To offer our prayers with our sacred corn,

    You mine for your bombs,

You found uranium in our land,

    The Spanish came for gold,

You left with leetsoh (yellow cake),

We say doo daa (no more),

Now you want to dig for more,

Heather and Pete you passed your bill,

To mine for yellow cake once more,

Haven’t you done enough to poison our land,

    The east meets the west,

The north meets the south at the same time,

    In there is a center,

Where we meet for our Navajo land,

You told us to assimilate and learn,

    Your non-Native ways,

In return we’d be left alone,

To offer our prayers with our sacred corn…

  • Turquoise Horse

My cousin brother is out there for something he is totally against,

My uncles said he’d been there in ‘Nam,

And they won’t listen to our ways because they still carry the fear

Of the red earth people, for whatever reasons

    Wonderful white eyes,

Trying to look through the skin,

    Like flash lights,

Saying it’s ok to be free in America,

We must come together and last forever,

    In order to stay together,

We must try not to run not hide,

Not to stay away for that one source in the sky

Every single day it will be passed on,

The Turquoises Horse in the sky,

When we cry the earth of people,

In our tears in the sky

When its cloudy outside, Its another white Pendleton blanket to

cover, To warm our bodies tonight,  When its cloudy outside

    Wonderful white eyes,

Trying to look through the skin,

    Like flash lights,

Fear, of the red earth people,

    For what ever reasons . . .

    Chorus:

    Bridge

You bring the promise of a new day,

Like a sunrise in your own way,

    And you are so beautiful

Little girl chant to end song

  • So It Is

In the beauty way it is, so it is!

My money I don’t have, so it is!

My work and my car I don’t have, so it is!

Our people’s ways I’ve forgot, so it is!

Hey you kicking the rock by the road,

Do you hear cries of the old?

In the beauty way it is, so it is!

My money I don’t have, so it is!

My work and my car I don’t have, so it is!

Our people’s ways I forgot, so it is!

Hey you kicking the rock by the road,

Do you hear cries of the old?

Do you remember stories your ancestors told?

The words that travel like the wind.

Everyone wants a piece of the dirt

    But someone owns it already

In the Bilagaana the society will always be there

The land we live on breaths after we

The time is now to mend the land as we are the earth

  • Second Wind

    Chant:

    Society's running from themselves,

People saying they know their ways,

You play it day by day real loud,

    Esoteric in some ways,

    Chorus:

Thinking there's gonna be a tomorrow,

    No guarantees for today,

You work real hard, you'll go real far,

And someday you'll be a big star,

You got your man walking with credentials,

Says he knows all about the ways,

Wants to share his big knowledge,

For a hundred and fifty dollars a head,

    Says his father is Navajo,

Says he's got Polynessian in his blood,

You market the two, and sell it in a way,

    Chorus:

Thinking there's gonna be a tomorrow,

    No guarantees for today,

You work real hard, you'll go real far,

And someday you'll be a big star,

You got your people in their silence,

    Action shows it's their ways,

They live it they don't talk about it after,

The stars in their hearts year around

    Chorus:

Saying there may not be a tomorrow,

    The guarantee is today,

You work real hard you'll go real far,

And some day you'll be in the stars,

    Chant

  • Vision Quest

    Everybody's grabbing for too much,

    Security, assets, reconition,

And beneath all that, there a lost connection,

    Of true love,

And there are the people that base their choices on how much they can get,

And abuse their powers of intrigue,

    By getting there,

    In the wrong way,

To which one of you I'm referring,

    Don't ask, but just wonder,

Cuz there's three answer to every question,

    Yes, no , maybe

    Chorus:

And there's you on your vision quest,

In tune with your spirit, in touch with the earth,

Not grabbing for as much as you can get,

Saying it takes up too ,much open space,

    Somehow everything you give,

     returns in some way,

You gave me, my feelings back, that I lost,

    Many years ago,

Thinggs didn't work out as we planned,

But it's okay, we must move on,

As I watch you leave with, the North wind,

I touched you, I touch you, IN some way

    Chours:

And there's you on your vision quest,

In tune with your spirit, in touch with the earth,

Not grabbing for as much as you can get,

Saying it takes up too ,much open space,

    Chant:

  • I Love You Mother

You are Navajo he is White,

Together the two of you, then came me,

    Different places different tongues,

In my struggle to survive I can feel where the boundaries meet

    Chorus

There's a fine line between the two of you now,

He is gone, you are here,

Red Earth Surface mother, you are here,

    Ayo anosh ni, shi ma

    Chant

In the beauty way you walk,

On the Navajo land, with your sacred lamb,

As I sit here thinking of you,

The thought of him passes through your mind,

    Chorus

    Chant

In the spirit world he waits,

For the children, he left behind,

You are Navajo he is White,

Together the two of you, and then came me,

    Different places different tongues,

In my struggle to survive I can feel where the boundaries meet

    Chorus

    Navajo:

My name is Tash, I am made from the Bitter Water, by the French/Irish,

My maternal grandfather is Red Streak Run to Water,

    My paternal grandmother is French,

    I was born in Shiprock

My family is from Big Mountain,

This is why I love you mother...

  • One Foot Moccasin

All through the night, I was gripped by pain for you,

The shame of your life, hit me like a stone,

You wanted to stay , your friend was far away,

As alcohol poured through me I was running from my home,

Now here I sit, with one moccasin on,

I don’t know what happened it hit so fast, this pain,

I’m not alone, you came into my life,

We both had restless spirits, to run for the mountains,

We packed up all our pain and forgot to bring the matches,

    Chorus:

We sang, danced, and cried, missing the ones we love,

The stories of our people, hiding and fighting to make things right,

On the way back down is a mystery to me today,

  • Juxtaposition

    Chorus:

    She's a musician, he's a musician,

They've got flags in their eyes,

    He's a musician, no she's a musician,

cuz he's a magician, but aren't we all juxtaposition,

The parallel line that lies between us,

    As the melodrama goes on,

    Desire for the connection,

Yet a separation to keep it together,

    So she's in control,

    Suffering wisdom for wanting more,

    Hate, love, thoughts,

    Can't escape

Well I, got too crowded with people,

    That I, understand their song,

    Hoping to find a reason,

Is the world's a stage and we're the play,

    Chorus:

    She's a musician, he's a magician,

They've got flags in their eyes,

    He's a musician, no she's a musician,

cuz he's a magician, but aren't we all juxtaposition, juxtaposition

Well it seems you know alot,

But do you know anything at all,

Cuz when our lines, they cross,

    The origin reveals itself

    Chorus:

    She's a musician, he's a magician,

They've got flags in their eyes,

    He's a musician, no she's a musician,

cuz he's a magician, but aren't we all juxtaposition,

I don't know what happened it hit so fat,

    This shame...

Its a shame, I'm to blame,

It's time to stand, and face me, inside,

To find the answers and the reasons,

To stop running, to look up, and feel the sun,

Shining love, peace, I want freedom, I want freedom
